What is Team Girl Up?

Team Girl Up is a running program all about girls’ empowerment. We recruit runners for marathons and half-marathons to raise funds that help adolescent girls around the world reach their full potential. Runners for Team Girl Up know that girls everywhere are powerful, and they are committed to helping the hardest to reach girls living in places where it is hardest to be a girl. All fitness levels are welcome with our program, and many participants are first-time marathon runners. Our resources and coaches will help make your race day a success.

What are the requirements to participate?

Members of Team Girl Up are required to:

  • Complete registration for an upcoming race as an official Team Girl Up runner
  • Commit to raise the amount of money specified for your race, even if you cannot complete the race due to injury. Runners have until one month after race day to meet their commitment.
  • Participate in Team Girl Up training and race-weekend activities, when desired

2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon

(October 8, 2017) Travel through 27 neighborhoods on a flat and fast course that starts and finishes in Grant Park, taking you through one of the world’s most magnificent cities. Runners from all 50 states and more than 100 countries enjoy the support of 1.7 million spectators at this elite race. Girl Up no longer has bibs available. Only runners that have secured their own bib through the lottery, legacy or deferral can still join our team.

2017 Philadelphia Marathon & Half Marathon

(November 18-19, 2017) This race is recognized for its flat terrain, mellow weather and spirited fans—with thousands of spectators that cheer on the runners as they pass through historic Philadelphia. Join our team for a course that is a favorite for both new and experienced runners. The fundraising minimum for the full marathon (Nov. 19) is $1,000 and for the half marathon (Nov. 18) is $850.

2018 Miami Marathon & Half Marathon

(January 28, 2018) This flat, single-loop course takes runners through Miami Beach, downtown Miami and Coconut Grove. Mile after mile, the beautiful views and sounds help propel runners to the finish line at Bayfront Park. Join Team Girl Up for our second year at this race. The fundraising minimum for the full marathon is $1,000 and for the half marathon is $850.

2018 Sketchers Performance Los Angeles Marathon

(March 18, 2018) This is Team Girl Up’s fourth year participating in the Sketchers Performance LA Marathon, one of the top-rated races in the world. The Stadium to Sea course takes runners from Dodger Stadium across Los Angeles to a scenic finish just steps from the Santa Monica Pier. Join our team for the full marathon or for the Charity Relay, where two runners split the 26.2 miles. The fundraising minimum for the full marathon is $1,000 and for each Charity Relay runner is $850.
