In the search for expanding youth views within Argentina

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Argentina is the eighth largest country in land area in the world! You can imagine how diverse the youth are depending on what part of the country they are from. Our country is geographically divided into 23 provinces, each one with its own personality and culture.

Last month, we launched our first Girl Up Youth Advisory Group in Argentina to bring together activists’ views from different parts of the country. One of our great objectives is to expand the movement throughout the national territory, strengthening and adapting Girl Up actions to local needs.

This incredible team is made up of 6 young leaders. Abril, from the province of Tucumán, is passionate about art and creative expression and is committed to making visible problems such as discrimination, lack of information, and mental health in adolescents and young people. Martina, a student from Córdoba, stands out for her activism in her school’s student center and her dedication to social causes. Francina, from Santa Fe, is an environmental and animal rights advocate committed to gender equality and social justice. Micaela, an International Relations and Law student in Mendoza, vigorously defends women’s rights. Florencia is a young woman from Santiago committed to youth activism and gender equality and is focused on generating positive changes in her community. Finally, Josefina, founder of Creating a Future, is dedicated to promoting quality education and youth development. Each of them brings a unique and valuable perspective to advisory meetings about the role of Girl Up and the path toward gender equity.

In these meetings, participants have shared their experiences, visions, and passions, leaving us inspiring quotes that reflect their commitment:

When we, youth, unite, we are unstoppable; we have to use this to our advantage to speak and make ourselves heard.

francina

Our problems are different, and so are our visions. And the set of ideas and opinions that are THIS diverse are powerful.

abril

It is essential not to ignore the current problems that affect us and to take action on any scale, getting involved out of respect for life, people, and our land.

josefina

We continue building impact networks…

In the coming months, the advisors will have the opportunity to meet in person during a trip to Buenos Aires, where they will continue expanding and working on their projects. These projects may include initiatives to expand the network of schools through visits, presentations, and activities in the region or to strengthen the leadership skills and gender justice knowledge of local youth.

Opportunities for youth are usually concentrated in the largest cities, and through this Youth Advisory Group, we’re committed to challenging this! We’ll keep you posted!
