The Importance of Girl Up in the Middle East

Gender inequality is present in the Middle East because of cultural norms, and it must stop not only for the betterment of the women, but for the progression of the entire region.

  1. Story
  2. Gender Justice

In the middle east, female stereotypes regarding specific roles and actions a woman should follow are prevalent because of the culture. Girls are often times not encouraged to seek professional jobs and attend secondary schooling. If they are, they often receive less money for their work than men. In rural parts of middle eastern countries, child marriage is common.

Gender inequality is present in the Middle East because of cultural norms, and it must stop not only for the betterment of the women, but for the progression of the entire region.

I have always looked to the injustices of the Middle East and have wanted to see a better life for girls in the area. I want to help girls who have the potential to succeed, but are held back because of the culture that surrounds them. Thus, I joined Girl Up as a Teen Advisor because I loved its goals and actions to improve the status of women globally.

Girl Up helps remedy such inequalities.

Girl Up is a United Nations Foundation movement to educate and empower girls globally.
