Girl Up Europe & Central Asia is a growing movement of transformative youth leaders and changemakers, passionate about advancing gender justice in the region & beyond. As of 2022, there are 137 Girl Up Clubs across Europe & Central Asia—a rate that is growing by 17% annually!—and three coalitions in London, Scotland, and the Balkans. We are proud to have hosted our first virtual event for the region in 2022: The STEM for Social Good Bootcamp on Design Thinking and three in-person Leadership Summits in London in 2018, 2019, and 2023. Girl Up UK Leadership Summit 2023
About the girl up uk leadership summit
As Girl Up celebrated International Day of the Girl throughout the month of October 2023, we gathered together over 60 London-area youth leaders (ages 13-24) for a day of inspiring speeches, panels, and workshops. To delve into the UK Summit theme “Trailblazing Together,” we spotlighted trailblazers throughout our youth-designed program, which spanned three core topics: storytelling as agents of change, inclusion in sports, and climate action. Attendees also joined in skill-building workshops and learned how to start Girl Up Clubs so that they can bring their ideas generated at the UK Summit back to their schools and communities.

Club Spotlight
IE Girl Up Club in Madrid recently hosted an “Unbreakable Conference”, an event celebrating the tenacity of women and exemplary female leadership. During the conference, more than 40 attendees and 9 guest speakers discussed how to achieve equal opportunities for women in both personal and professional spheres of life, from entrepreneurship and career development to personal branding and social impact.
Seeing people in my school, my community, and even outside of my community transform because of what I do makes me want to continue to advocate for what I believe is right. Through Girl Up, I now have a strong passion to help others and positively impact the world around me.

Karina Jougla
SENIOR MANAGER, GLOBAL OPERATIONS
Karina (she/her) is a Paris-based member of Girl Up’s Global Operations team. She coordinates GU’s regional and affiliate network in addition to serving the Europe and North America region. Originally from California, Karina was part of the first class of Girl Up Teen Advisors. Before returning to Girl Up as a staff member, Karina worked for several humanitarian and gender equality organizations. She has a Bachelors in Comparative Literature from Columbia and a Master of Public Affairs from Sciences Po Paris.
