Herstory is being made around the world!
This week in the United States, a record number of young people marched to the polls to vote in the midterm elections, sending a message that could not have been clearer: when young people are behind the wheel, change is made. As a result, a historic number of women, including women of color, Muslim women, and members of the LGBTQ+ community, have been elected into office.
Recently in Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde became the first woman president of the country, joining the ranks of global female leaders like New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Aredern, Nepali President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, and more. Justice Anisa Rasooli, the first female Supreme Court Justice in Afghanistan, was appointed, and this month students organized the largest political protest that the United Kingdom has ever seen.

Girl Up is proud of our girl leaders across the globe who have organized, voted (or helped to “get out the vote” if you’re not old enough to vote yet), and used your voice to be changemakers.
We know that this is just the beginning. We’re not in a global moment, we’re in a global movement, and we are so grateful to each one of you for being a part of it.
