Girl Up was born within the United Nations Foundation — a bold idea that became a movement — then grew into a global movement for gender justice led by young people. Guided by our youth leaders’ vision for more direct action and deeper grassroots connection, we transitioned in 2025 to our fiscal home at Global Fund for Children. This move strengthened Girl Up’s ability to operate as a globally distributed, youth-led movement—expanding our training, resources, and support so more young changemakers can lead where they live and on the global stage. We carry forward the UN Foundation’s spirit of innovation as a close thought partner while advancing Girl Up’s ambitious path to 2030 and beyond.
