When I think back to my trip to Estonia with WiSci I realize it was not just about traveling. It was about transformation. It was my first time leaving my family and stepping into a world of possibility I had never known existed. Through WiSci, I met brilliant young women from around the globe, explored careers I never even knew were possible, and perhaps most importantly I began to dream in color. For the first time, I did not just have a dream; I saw it coming to life.
Those two weeks planted a seed of confidence and curiosity that has guided me ever since. Because of that experience, I decided to attend Agnes Scott College, a historically women’s college whose mission is “to educate women to think deeply, live honorably, and engage the intellectual and social challenges of their times.” At Agnes Scott, I was challenged to lead with purpose and integrity, to use my voice boldly, and to see my education not just as a personal privilege but as a tool for impact.
That foundation has led me to where I am today pursuing my MPH in Global Health at Emory University and serving as the current Miss Kenya USA. My platform focuses on maternal and infant mortality, ensuring that every mother and child, no matter where they are born, has the chance to survive and thrive. I also work to uplift children in Kenya, advocating for education and opportunity, reminding them that they can be anything and everything despite the challenges of a system that may not always work in their favor. I am also deeply passionate about the Kenyan diaspora, especially young people, ensuring they never lose their voice or connection to home. Inspired by my WiSci experience, I recently developed a curriculum for high schoolers in Kenya focused on career exploration, leadership, and self-empowerment. The program helped students envision futures beyond their current circumstances, encouraging them to think critically, dream boldly, and understand that they matter. The manner in which students engaged with a curriculum designed to spark curiosity, confidence, and leadership brought me full circle. I saw myself in them the same awe, the same hunger to learn, the same hope that once propelled me forward.
WiSci did not just give me knowledge, it gave me more than memories, it gave me direction and a mission. It taught me that education is not confined to classrooms, that leadership begins with empathy, and that one spark can ignite a lifetime of purpose. I am who I am becoming today thanks to that pivtal experience and I carry its lessons with me into every space I step into.
