The results of the U.S. election are difficult to process. For many of us, this outcome feels like a step backward for gender justice, climate action, and human rights. The feelings of anger, grief, and hopelessness are real, and they are valid.
But even in moments like this, we know one truth: we do not give up.
While this result may feel like a setback, we are reminded that globally, women continue to rise into leadership roles. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo in Mexico, Katerina Sakellaropoulou in Greece, Sanna Marin in Finland, and Tsai Ing-wen in Taiwan are just a few examples of women leading their countries with vision and strength. Our fight is part of this larger movement.
Advancing justice has never been easy, and it has never been straightforward. But throughout history, girls and women have led movements of change in the face of adversity. Today is no different. Now, we rise again. We rise stronger, more determined, and more united than ever.
At Girl Up, we are more committed than ever to empowering youth leaders who will not be silenced. The future is still in our hands, and we will continue to push for a world where every girl and young woman can thrive, lead, and live free of injustice.
This election result is not the end of our story—it’s a call to action. Together, we will continue to push forward.
We may be grieving today, but we rise tomorrow—because the future we want is worth fighting for.
