Women’s History Month is celebrated every March, with International Women’s Day falling on the 8th of the month. It emphasizes the importance of empowering the voices of young women and girls and advocating for gender equality on a global scale. In honor of this special time of year, Girl Up often creates a digital campaign highlighting the vital contributions of girls and women globally and the ways they’re mobilizing communities to create change.

This year, Girl Up once again amplified stories, strides, and achievements of women and girls all over the world, to acknowledge their contributions and the positive impact they have on society. Within this “Legends of Leadership” campaign, Girl Up motivated its youth leaders to understand their voting rights and the importance of the participation of more women and youth in governance. This campaign aligned with the United Nations Youth Office’s campaign “Be Seen, Be Heard” in hopes of mobilizing young people to be active civic leaders and advocate for action, from engaging in local advocacy efforts to signing up for Girl Up’s leadership course. They uplifted their voices and those of their community with important messaging to motivate people to vote and demand the rights of everyone to engage in a voting process free from interference.

By working together to amplify historical Legends of Leadership and their stories in the civic rights movement, Girl Up members were inspired to not wait for change to come, but instead create the change they want to be and see themselves.

Happy Women’s History Month

Girl Up youth leaders from across the globe came together to wish everyone a happy Women’s History Month, kicking off a month filled with raising awareness, learning, advocating, and celebrating women and girls globally.

Myths vs Fact

In partnership with the UN Youth Office, Girl Up highlighted the lack of representation of youth and women in politics because of gendered risks and impacts.

Legends of Leadership Lessons

Girl Up leaders from México, Brasil, the United Kingdom, India, Namibia, and Argentina shared weekly lessons on historical feminist heroes and the ways we can all become legends of leadership too!

Women of the Hour

Collaborating with Seedel, Girl Up amplified the powerful words of this rising youth poet and her feminist anthem.

Looking Ahead

As Girl Up wraps up another Women’s History Month campaign, we look ahead to the future of politics and how more girls and women can be supported to get involved.
