Girl Up Global Leadership Summit Inspires an International Community of Youth Changemakers

Gender justice advocates around the world mobilize online for Girl Up’s annual flagship event.

  1. Press Release
  2. Gender Justice

Girl Up – a girl-centered leadership development initiative focusing on equity for girls and women and founded and hosted by the United Nations Foundation – will hold its annual Global Leadership Summit on June 27. The 2023 virtual event, presented by Procter & Gamble and its brands Always, Olay and Whisper, will bring together young people from around the globe who are passionate about advancing the movement for gender justice and creating social change worldwide. This year’s Summit theme, Our Voice, Our Power, will teach youth activists from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe how to harness their voice and hone their skills in advocacy, organizing, storytelling, and more to address some of the world’s biggest, and intersecting crises, such as climate change; sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice; and global feminism. This year’s Global Leadership Summit will take place virtually on Zoom Events.

“This year’s Global Leadership Summit theme, ‘Our Voice, Our Power,’ is more than just a gathering of girls and youth activists – it’s a call to action. By connecting with like-minded peers and learning from global champions for gender justice, young changemakers will take away both insights and inspiration to create meaningful change together. The global movement for gender justice isn’t a solo project, and Girl Up is connecting transformative youth leaders poised to make change,” said Melissa Kilby, Girl Up Chief Executive Officer.

The virtual Global Leadership Summit will overlap with the first day of programming of Girl Up’s in-person, regional USA Leadership Summit, June 27-28 in Washington, D.C., and will allow attendees of both events opportunities to connect from across the world and learn side-by-side.

Featured speakers of this year’s event include Women’s Health and Reproductive Rights Advocate, Phoebe Gates; Author, Historian, and Women’s Rights Advocate, Dr. Nina Ansary; and Model, Actress, and Miss Universe 2021, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu.
