Girl Up UK

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER

WHO WE ARE

We are a youth-led movement dedicated to empowering, inspiring and connecting girls around the world to become leaders and activists for gender equality. Youth have the power to drive change and are the heart of our movement. Girl Up UK is a not-for-profit charity affiliated with Girl Up, an initiative of the United Nations Foundation.

Since Girl Up UK’s first Leadership Summit in 2018, youth leaders across the UK have started more than 65 Clubs. Girl Up UK Clubs are a place for girls to gather and gain confidence, experience, and expertise on issues they find important including STEAM for social good, menstrual equity, access to sports, climate change, and more. Clubs are girl-led, open to youth of all gender identities, and help members learn and apply leadership skills related to advocacy, storytelling, fundraising, and grassroots organising. Together, our youth are changing norms, advancing policies, and fighting to expand girls’ rights and agency across intersecting issues.

What Our Leaders Say

Participating in Girl Up connects me to members of my own community, as well as people within the global organisation, to share ideas about prominent international issues, fundraise, and support each other. It’s incredibly empowering. Young activists are vital; we are going to inherit this world soon, and we need to have the passion, motivation and skills to create an inclusive, peaceful community. Being a young activist opens your eyes to awful situations going on around the world, but also gives you the power to stand up against them.

Girl Up UK Leadership Summit 2023

About the girl up UK Leadership summit

As Girl Up celebrated International Day of the Girl throughout the month of October 2023, we gathered together over 60 London-area youth leaders (ages 13-24) for a day of inspiring speeches, panels, and workshops. To delve into the UK Summit theme “Trailblazing Together,” we spotlighted trailblazers throughout our youth-designed program, which spanned three core topics: storytelling as agents of change, inclusion in sports, and climate action. Attendees also joined in skill-building workshops and learned how to start Girl Up Clubs so that they can bring their ideas generated at the UK Summit back to their schools and communities.
