Applications for the 2024 Scholarship fund will re-open in early June of 2024.

What is Girl Up?

Girl Up is a youth-centered leadership initiative focusing on equity for girls and women in spaces where they are unheard or underrepresented. We believe when girls and women are in positions of influence, they work to create a more just and equitable space for everyone. Girl Up aims to support its network of youth leaders around the world through financial awards, honorariums, and scholarships because we know that when you educate a girl, you educate a nation.  

What does education look like around the world?
  1. 131 million

    girls are out of school around the world

  2. 76 million

    out of 123 million illiterates worldwide, are female

  3. < 30%

    of researchers around the world are women

  4. 25%

    of countries have achieved gender parity in upper secondary education/high school

  5. 4%

    countries have achieved gender parity in tertiary education

Why the Girl Up Scholarship Fund?

The Girl Up Scholarship Fund offers scholarships to girls and young women who are passionate about gender equality and pursuing higher education. Youth can apply twice per year and the funds are dispersed directly to the institutes of higher education. Scholarships are USD $2,500 per academic year. After receiving their scholarships, youth work directly with Girl Up to create a social impact project in their community.

When do the next Scholarship Fund applications open?

Applications for the 2024 STEM For Social Good Scholarship application will open in early June 2024. Stay tuned! 

How do I report my current scholarship project?

Please find Girl Up’s new Scholarship Reporting Resource here and the Scholarship Reporting Template here. Once you have completed your scholarship project in your community, please complete the Scholarship Reporting Template and email it to The 2023 Scholarship Reports are due by Summer of 2024. If you are struggling to come up with your project or need further assistance, please email!
