Overview

Girl Up is committed to bridging the gender gap and breaking down barriers everywhere they exist. Supported by partners and donors, the new Girl Up Scholarship Fund honors young leaders’ unwavering commitment to making the world a better place for every girl, everywhere.

Who can apply?

The Girl Up STEM Scholarship application is open to any self-identified girl or woman who:  

  • Is a Girl Up participant (event attendee, Club member, program participant, etc.)  
  • Is enrolled in a 2-year, 4-year, or technical college by time of funds disbursement (high school seniors can apply!)  
  • Is pursuing specific field in STEM (pursuing a degree in a STEM field and/or plans to use STEM as a platform for advocacy) 
  • Has no familial relationship with a UN Foundation employee or other conflict-of-interest with the UN Foundation  

The Sports Fellowship application is open to any self-identified girl or woman who:

  • Is enrolled in a 4-year college/university by time of funds disbursement (only high school seniors can apply!) 
  • Is passionate about using sports as a platform for gender equality 
  • Is available to meet quarterly with Girl Up Staff throughout the four-year fellowship to plan an ongoing gender equality sports project on campus 
  • Is pursuing sports in college/university in any of the following ways*:
    • As an athlete (for any sport)
    • As a sports-related major (sports business, sports marketing, sports journalism, sports medicine, etc.)
    • As an equipment manager, coach, assistant, strength trainer, physical therapist, referee, recruiter,  mascot, broadcaster, journalist, photographer, statistician, etc. 
    • *This is not an exhaustive list and we are open to all involvement in sports 
  • Has no familial relationship with a UN Foundation employee or other conflict-of-interest with the UN Foundation 

General Info

If you are selected to receive a fellowship or scholarship, the funds will go directly to your higher education institution.

The Girl Up scholarship and fellowship applications are open to applicants of all nationalities. Applicants who identify as first-generation American, Black or African-American, Latinx, undocumented, DACA, and/or have a disability are encouraged to apply.

Girl Up is committed to seeking and maintaining a culturally diverse and inclusive Scholarship Program. Those pursuing higher education are encouraged to apply regardless of background or identity. Applicants from underrepresented backgrounds in regard to race/ethnicity, nationality, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, religion, etc. are especially encouraged to apply.
