Leadership Spotlight: Letícia Bahia — Girl Up Brasil

  1. Story

Reimagining Power and Politics for a New Generation

From São Paulo to Salvador, Letícia Bahia, Executive Director of Girl Up Brasil, is igniting conversations that are reshaping what leadership looks like in Latin America. Through her vision, Girl Up is creating spaces where girls lead national dialogues on gender justice, political participation, and menstrual equity — and where the next generation of changemakers is already making history.

The future of Girl Up in my region is having our current leaders voting for our alumni!

Read Letícia’s reflections on her proudest Girl Up moment, the challenges women face in Brazilian politics, and her bold vision for the future of Girl Up in her region.

What’s your proudest Girl Up moment?

When we were featured on one of Brazil’s most watched TV shows, Fantástico, in a story about menstrual dignity. You can watch it below!

What’s one challenge in your region the world should know about?

People should know that although Brazil has laws ensuring women’s participation in politics, not only were we never anywhere close to 50/50 in any legislative body, but the very laws that should ensure we take part are currently under threat. So politics is still really a narrow door for women in Brazil — let alone for girls.

The future of Girl Up in my region is…

Having our current leaders voting for our alumni!
