Invest in a Girl
Girl Up is supporting UN programs in Malawi, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Liberia. We are asking you to be BFFs with girls in Malawi. Your $5 donation will support girls in Malawi in the following ways:
While many girls would like to complete their educations – school fees, household chores, gathering water, and early marriage cause most girls to drop out. $5 can provide these school fees and supplies for girls to complete secondary school in Malawi. |
Many girls don’t have a safe space to gather with friends to receive guidance and support on issues – like not being able to go to school or being forced into marriage. $5 can help form girls-only clubs for teen girls. |
Health centers in Malawi are needed to support teen girls. $5 can help transform a clinic in Blantyre, Malawi, from a tiny room serving 130,000 youth into a larger facility that will allow more girls to receive health services. |
Health centers in Malawi run out of education materials and do not have a way to replace them. $5 can help stock a girl-friendly space with materials that answer basic health questions, so that girls can take important information with them, and share new learnings with friends and family. |
$5 will fund girl-focused community campaigns in Malawi regions of Mangochi and Chikwawa
- The “STOP EARLY MARRIAGES” campaign is working to mobilize communities to stop the practice of child marriage and empower girls to make decisions about their futures. Half of all girls in Malawi are married before age 18, which can force them to drop out of school and lead to greater risk of violence.
- The “SAY NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST GIRLS” campaign is working to make sure everyone in Malawi knows that hurting girls – because they are girls – is never acceptable. In Malawi, many girls are victims of gender-based violence, even at school, by male pupils or teachers.
