Angie Jiang

My name is Angela Wei Jiang, or Angie for short, and I was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. I currently serve as the Madison West High School Girl Up President and will be a senior for the 2017-2018 School Year.

I am a Chinese-American who loves to break things… things being gender roles and racial stereotypes. If there’s one thing you won’t hear me stop talking about it’s debate. Whether it’s Public Forum or, my favorite, Congressional Debate, I love discussing the ins and outs of political decisions, policy, and all things government. I love to introduce and debate bills or topics that have to do with Gender Related issues, whether that be paid parental leave, the legalization and regulation of the Sex Work Industry, or the elimination of the luxury Tampon Tax.

Secondly, I love competing on my school’s Swim Team, where I get to persevere through the blood, sweat, and tears of 5:15 morning practice with some of the most powerful women I am blessed to meet. Thirdly, I’m a huge advocate for sustainability and environmental awareness. Did you know that in times of environmental disaster, it’s women that suffer the brunt of the damage? By saving the earth and creating sustainable jobs and industry, we actually empower women, in a sort of eco-feminism. Lastly, I am so honored to work with my girls in Madison West Girl Up and cannot wait to serve as your 2017-2018 Girl Up Teen Advisor. Within our current political climate it is more important than ever to use your voice no matter who you are, where you live, whatever you identify as.

We are the future politicians, business leaders, scientists, and activists, and every girl deserve the chance to achieve whatever they chose. The Future is Female and I can’t wait to see it unfold!
