Fundraising Successes

Girl Up depends on the fundraising of its fantastic supporters to fund UN programs for adolescent girls.

Raising funds for girls – so that all girls can reach their full potential – is a critical part of what we do. Since the campaign launched, Girl Up has raised more than $5,600,000 for UN programs that serve adolescent girls in our focus countries.

Fundraising is a team effort: uniting people and pooling resources. Every fundraiser deserves a huge high five including these stand-out examples:

Lend Your Voice: Benefit Performance for Girl Up

Organized by Shira

In 2014, Shira decided to do something special for her Bat Mitzvah. A musical-theater performer, Shira decided to put on a cabaret show to showcase her friends’ talents and share with her community in Maryland. Not only did Shira help to manage a show with 70 performers, she managed to fill the 200 person audience. Her passion and ingenuity resulted in more than $2,500 raised through online and offline donations to Girl Up!

Girl Up Excalibur SaleFlea Market Sale

Led by Girl Up Excalibur Club

Fearless Club Leader, Hiba landed on a genius way to fundraise for Girl Up at the Cambridge High School in Abu Dhabi, Dubai. She realized that one woman’s junk is another one’s treasure, setting up a booth at the local flea market to sell second-hand goods in spring 2014. All told, they raised more than $400. But, that wasn’t all. The Excalibur Club replicated their earlier success in the fall of 2014 with a used book and coffee mug sale that raised another $460. That’s nearly $900!

Nehal and Sushila JainMother-Daughter Tea

Led by Nehal and Priti Jain

It’s not just girls fundraising: Girl Up has seen entire families unite to put on a successful event. Take Nehal (the daughter) and Priti (the mother) for instance. They invited friends and family to attend a tea party at their home one Saturday afternoon to raise awareness and funds for girls in developing countries. Having been inspired by the work of cousin and former Teen Advisor Priyanka, Nehal offered inspiring remarks and shared stories from Girl Up’s work with the UN. In return, guests made donations to Girl Up, totaling $1,500. Tea never tasted so good!
